Close-to-production Kia GT concept to bow in LA?

July 23, 2015
Dutch media outlets are reporting Kia is preparing to introduce an updated version of the stunning GT concept that bowed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The original GT concept (pictured) was billed as merely a design study, but it generated such a positive response from show-goers and enthusiasts that Kia began to toy around with idea of bringing it to production. The updated version of the concept will be a lot closer to production than the original thanks to a toned-down design that complies with safety norms in all markets around the world.

The original GT concept was powered by a turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine that send 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. What the updated concept will be powered by is an open question.

The star of the Kia stand at this September’s Frankfurt Motor Show will be the new Sportage, so the GT won’t be introduced until the Los Angeles Motor Show that will open its doors next November. Although it will again be billed as a design study, sources close to Kia have revealed that the concept will be toned-down one final time and added to the Kia lineup as a regular-production model by the end of next year.
