Despite its futuristic appearance, the project is said to serve as a tribute to the brand’s racing tradition in the 1920s and 1930s. The company cites Le Mans victories in 1937 and 1939 as highlights of the period.
Designers took inspiration from the Le Mans winner, a Bugatti Type 57 Tank, as a theme for the Vision GT concept, clad in a classic two-tone blue finish to match the historic racer and the French automaker’s modern brand color.
“In the Bugatti Veyron, we have developed a super sports car which unites two characteristics, the beauty and the beast,” said Bugatti design head Achim Anscheidt. “The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo embodies the performance beast. It has a more radical and extreme style.”
The concept features Bugatti’s characteristic profile and horse shoe on the front grille, centered between eight-eyed headlights. A fin runs the length of the roof, inspired by the Type 57 Atlantic from 1936.
The project will be on display in physical form later this month in Frankfurt.
