The company has received at least 33 warranty claims related to blown fuses for the starter motor in vehicles equipped with four-cylinder engines. In certain driving situations that engage the engine’s fuel-saving stop/start function, the fuse can blow and leave the vehicle effectively disabled.
“If the vehicle is unexpectedly unable to be started in the middle of traffic, such as when stopped at an intersection, there is an increased risk of a crash,” the recall documents note.

The company expects to begin fixing cars next month.
