DeltaWing introduces production-intent GT concept, race car chassis

An American company named DeltaWing has introduced a futuristic new concept called GT, and a chassis developed to eventually underpin a race car.

The GT is the latest in a long line of aerodynamic experimental sports cars that began in 2012 when DeltaWing participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The concept has been gradually fine-tuned with input from Panoz, an engineering firm and sports car builder, and DeltaWing is finally ready to build and test the first few prototypes.

DeltaWing designed the GT to be both simple and efficient. With a low drag coefficient of 0.26 and a low weight, it is capable of returning 74 mpg on the highway and 57 mpg in a mixed cycle when it’s powered by a 1.4-liter engine tuned to deliver 138 horsepower. Alternatively, it can be fitted with an all-electric drivetrain, a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, a diesel engine or an engine powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

Interior pictures aren’t available yet, but the company aims to ultimately build both two- and four-seater models.

DeltaWing is looking to team up with a major automaker to build the GT in order to avoid having to invest in a new production facility. A time frame for when we can expect to see DeltaWing’s triangle-shaped GT on public roads has not been given yet, and pricing information isn’t available.
