The S-FR stretches 157 inches long, 66 inches wide and just 51 inches tall, dimensions that make it about a size smaller than the Scion FR-S. It blends a sporty silhouette with a heritage-laced design that’s inspired by the 1965 Sports 800, Toyota’s first-ever sports car.
Inside, the coupe gets a simple, back-to-the-basics cockpit unabashedly designed around the driver. The center console is pared down to only the bare essentials, and all car-related information is grouped in an easy-to-read single-pod digital instrument cluster. Notably, the S-FR is not equipped with a touch screen or with an infotainment system.
Full technical details haven’t been published yet. All we know so far is that the Japanese car maker’s next concept is powered by a four-cylinder engine mounted in front-mid position, and that a six-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear wheels. Toyota promises the coupe is exceptionally light and agile.
More information about the S-FR concept will be published during the Tokyo show, and we’ll be on-location to bring you live images of it starting on October 28th. While earlier rumors claim the concept will be added to the Scion lineup as an entry-level sports car in 2018, Toyota hasn’t revealed what the future holds for it.
