Several leaked patent images have prematurely revealed Honda’s upcoming Fit-based, sub-CR-V crossover ahead of its scheduled debut at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show. Â
The images reveal the crossover is nearly identical to the Urban SUV Concept that bowed in Detroit earlier this year but it gains regular headlamps and smaller, more realistic wheels. Â The front end is inspired by Honda’s new “Exciting H” design language, and the concept’s hidden rear door handles have been carried over to the production version.
Interior pictures were not leaked but the crossover will likely follow the path blazed by the Fit and adopt a clean, simple dashboard with a large color touch screen and a three-pod instrument cluster.
Rumors indicate the crossover could use a slightly larger version of the new direct-injected 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine found under the hood of the 2015 Fit. Both front- and all-wheel drive models will be offered, and the crossover could gain a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain later in the production run.
Look for official details about the yet-unnamed crossover to emerge over the coming weeks. Â After debuting in Japan, Honda’s smallest soft-roader will land in showrooms across the U.S. next summer as a 2015 model. Â
