Detroit-bound 2017 Lincoln Continental leaked

January 8, 2016

A leaked low-resolution image has revealed the 2017 Lincoln Continental a few days ahead of its official debut at next week’s Detroit Motor Show.

Published on a forum called Fordinsidenews, the image reveals the Continental has changed little in its transition from a concept to a production car. The low-spec model depicted in the leaked picture gets more realistic-looking headlights, a new lower bumper, less chrome trim, and it rides on smaller wheels. High-spec trim levels are expected to look even more similar to the Continental concept that was shown last year at the New York Auto Show.

Irman Jalal, Lincoln’s marketing manager, recently told Car & Driver that Lincoln doesn’t want to dabble in gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrains, in turbodiesel engines, and even in performance-tuned engines, at least not for the time being. His comments suggest the Continental will launch with an evolution of the brand new 3.0-liter GTDI V6 that was inaugurated last November in Los Angeles by the thoroughly updated 2017 MKZ. Front-wheel drive and 350 horsepower will come standard, while all-wheel drive and 400 ponies will be offered at an extra cost.

Stay tuned, Lincoln will fully unveil the 2017 Continental in the next few days, and we’ll bring you live images of it straight from the nation’s Motor City.
