England-based Caterham has introduced a more comfortable version of the track-ready Seven 620R called Seven 620S.
Power comes from a 620R-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ford engine that uses a large supercharger to develop 310 horsepower and 219 lb-ft. of torque. The roughly 1,350-pound 620S reaches 60 mph from a stop in 3.4 seconds, and it goes on to a top speed of 145 mph. Rear-wheel drive is the only configuration offered, but the R’s sequential transmission has been replaced by a five-speed manual unit.
The S benefits from a model-specific suspension that’s not as spine-jarring as the track-tuned setup found in the R. However, enthusiasts looking to hit the track on a regular basis can ask the car maker to fit the S with the same suspension setup as the R at an extra cost.
Caterham has upgraded the cabin with an array of creature comforts including a heater, a full windshield, and leather-upholstered seats. Buyers who want an even more comfortable Seven can order the 620S with a wide chassis that frees up more space in the cockpit and allows the British car maker to fit a much larger gas tank. Other options include a quick-release steering wheel, a tonneau cover, carbon fiber fenders, and even heated seats.
Positioned near the top of the Caterham Seven lineup, the 620S is on sale now in its home country with a base price of £44,995, a figure that converts to a little over $64,000.
