Ford’s F-150 diesel revealed in new spy video

January 29, 2016

A new spy video has all but confirmed that Ford’s light-duty F-150 pickup truck will soon be given the diesel treatment.

The video, which was shot in Ford’s own backyard, shows an F-150 prototype with the signature exhaust note of a diesel engine. The video follows spy shots of a similar prototype taken in December.

It’s believed that Ford’s light-duty diesel pickup truck will be powered by a 3.0L turbo V6 codenamed Lion. The 3.0L lump with be closely related, if not exactly the same, to the V6 diesel used in Land Rover’s Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Td6 models.

If the Land Rover’s specs carryover, that means we should expect 254 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque from the diesel-powered F-150. The diesel mill will likely be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which should help the aluminum-bodied pickup to at least 30mpg on the highway.

Look for Ford’s diesel-powered F-150 to launch by the end of the year.
