Cadillac’s long-rumored three-row crossover utility vehicle has finally broken cover on the streets of Detroit. Believed to be called XT7, Cadillac’s new crossover will give buyers a more civilized alternative to the truck-based Escalade.
The Cadillac XT7 will ride on a long-wheelbase version of the platform that underpins the all-new GMC Acadia. The next-generation Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave will also share their underpinnings with the XT7.
Although still covered in heavy camouflage, a few design details can be seen poking out, including LED headlight accents. The XT7 is expected to adopt many of the styling cues from Cadillac’s CT6 sedan and XT5 small crossover.
The interior of the XT7 will feature seating for at least seven and the latest version of Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system. There should also be plenty of luxury touches throughout, including standard leather and real wood accents.
Most XT7 models will be powered by the same 3.6L V6 found beneath the hood of the XT5, but we’ve also heard reports of a turbocharged powertrain. A plug-in hybrid drivetrain is also a possibility.
Look for the Cadillac XT7 to make its global debut in either late 2016 or early 2017. When it hits the market as a 2018 model, the XT7 will do battle against the likes of the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90.
