Portland OKs Tesla Model S as next-gen limo

Portland is known as a progressive city; not just socially but also through its vast transportation infrastructure that utilizes buses, light rail, streetcars, trams, and lots and lots of bicycles. On the car front, it’s progressive, too. There are more Toyota Prii in Portland per capita than anywhere else.

It should surprise no one, then, that the city popularized for its wackiness in the sketch comedy show Portlandia now has a Tesla Model S limo service. That’s right. The City of Portland has granted an Executive Sedan status to the fleet of Teslas owned by the company Tesla Trips.

Tesla Trips formerly focused on organizing Tesla road trips but with the addition of its executive status with the state, it will begin focusing on beer and wine tours in Oregon, according to a Green Car Reports story.

Tesla Trips doesn’t list full pricing for Model S wine tours on its site but does indicate a trip from down Portland to Portland International Airport only costs $60 and includes free access to an LTE hotspot for multiple devices.

With the discontinuation of the Lincoln Town Car and the Ford Crown Victoria, many executive driver companies were anxiously pondering what might replace the robust cruisers. Perhaps the Tesla Model S will be the answer to their prayers?
