Filming of the seventh title in the Fast & Furious franchise has been put on hold indefinitely while the cast and crew mourns the death of Paul Walker.
The lead actor was killed on Saturday in a car crash just outside of Los Angeles that is still being investigated by authorities. Universal Pictures halted the big budget production Wednesday to “assess all options available to move forward with the franchise.” For now, the studio is focusing on providing support to Walker’s family and the film’s cast and crew.
The Fast & Furious films have consistently been blockbuster successes for Universal, and the seventh installment was scheduled for release July 11, 2014. Production had been only half-finished, and Walker was scheduled to shoot more scenes in coming weeks. Furthermore, the cast and crew had been providing speculation that an eighth film was also in the works.
As for the accident that claimed Walker’s life, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office has released more details. Apparently Walker succumbed to a combination of traumatic and thermal injuries while Roger Rodas, the presumed driver, died of multiple traumatic injuries.
Meanwhile, the creators of the Fast & Furious have released this video tribute to Walker.
