A report coming out of Uruguay indicates Automóviles Lamborghini Latinoamérica (ALL) is gearing up to open a large production, service and storage facility in a business park located in Montevideo, the country’s capital. Based in Mexico, ALL is an independently-owned company that was granted the rights to use the Lamborghini name in the 1990s through a series of complex international agreements between the various firms that have owned the storied Italian brand throughout the years.
Construction work on ALL’s new facility reportedly started several months ago and the plant is expected to be fully operational next summer at the very latest. Local newspaper El Observador reports ALL has secured the exclusive rights to import and sell Lamborghini cars from the factory in Italy as well as all kinds of merchandise bearing the company’s iconic logo.
Interestingly, the first model to roll out of the new plant will be a locally-designed supercar that will be built largely for export markets. Details are scarce, but sources indicate 24 examples of the yet-unnamed model will be hand-built in Montevideo and distributed in a host of countries all around the world. The car will undoubtedly borrow its platform from an existing Lamborghini, and it will be partially constructed with carbon fiber.
A timeframe for when the new model will be introduced was not given.
If the rumor proves true, an official announcement about ALL’s new production facility and its upcoming supercar will be made before the end of the year.
