Stretching 165 inches long, 72 inches wide and 55 inches tall, Audi’s latest show car is billed as an accurate preview of the third-generation TT that will bow in Geneva next March. The concept wears a bold design characterized by sharp headlights equipped with matrix beam technology, a hexagonal radiator grille with chromed horizontal slats and a TT-esque rear end.
The allroad touches include brushed aluminum trim on both ends, long roof rails and black plastic trim on the wheel arches and the rocker panels. 19-inch wheels and a relatively high ground clearance finish off the rugged look.
Audi tapped into its expertise in the fields of aluminum and carbon fiber construction to keep the coupe’s weight as low as possible.
The allroad shooting brake features a minimalist, driver-oriented dashboard loosely inspired by the one found in the Sport quattro concept that was presented in Frankfurt last September. Notably, the traditional instrument cluster has been replaced by a 12.3-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) screen that provides vital information about the car and lets the driver navigate the infotainment system, freeing up space on the center console.
Power comes from a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 292-horsepower 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that draw electricity from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. Combined, the three power sources transfer 408 horsepower and 479 lb-ft. of torque. to all four wheels via Audi’s famed quattro all-wheel drive system.
The driver can choose from three driving modes including one dubbed EV that enables the car to run on electricity alone for up to 31 miles at speeds of up to 80 mph.
Stay tuned to Leftlane for live coverage straight from the Detroit show floor starting tomorrow morning. In addition to the allroad shooting brake concept, Audi will also display the U.S. showroom-bound version of its Q3 crossover.
What’s Next?
The allroad shooting brake certainly previews what the next TT will look like, but Audi has not commented on whether it is actively considering launching an off-road variant of its popular sports car in the near future.
