Cadillac has unveiled the high-style coupe variant of the ATS sedan at the Detroit Motor Show.
The ATS Coupe shares its 109.3-inch wheelbase with its sedan counterpart but it features many model-specific body parts including the roof panel, the trunk lid and the rear quarter panels. The coupe further stands out from the sedan thanks to a specific front end with an oversized grille and a new bumper. 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires come standard.
The ATS Coupe inaugurates the new Cadillac emblem that will gradually grace the grille of all members of the automaker’s lineup. The logo loses the historic wreath in favor of a noticeably more prominent crest.
Thanks to clever packaging, engineers have given the ATS Coupe a near-perfect 50-50 weight distribution. All models come standard with Brembo brakes up front, an electric power steering system and underbody aerodynamic shields.
Inside, the ATS Coupe boasts a driver-focused dashboard that can be ordered with premium trim materials including carbon fiber, aluminum and real wood. An eight-inch touch screen located on the center stack allows the driver to navigate Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system.
The list of high-tech options includes OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capable of connecting up to seven devices at once, a text-to-voice function that reads text messages out loud, a full-color heads-up display and a Bose sound system capable of playing pre-recorded engines noises through the car’s speakers.
The ATS Coupe comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 272 horsepower and 295 lb-ft. of torque, and buyers after more power can opt for a 3.6-liter V6 that churns out 321 ponies and 275 lb-ft. of twist. Both engines are linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, but the smaller unit can be ordered with a six-speed manual. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is offered at an extra cost.
Cadillac’s latest two-door reaches 60 mph from a stop in 5.6 seconds in its fastest configuration. Down the road, a high-performance ATS-V Coupe – potentially packing up to 500 horsepower – aimed squarely at the BMW M4 is expected.
Following its debut in Michigan, the ATS Coupe will go on sale this summer as a 2015 model. Pricing information and fuel economy figures will be published at a later date.
