Chevrolet announced on Thursday that the first production units of its 2014 COPO Camaro and Camaro Z/28 will be going under the gavel the weekend of January 17 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction. All proceeds will be given to charity.
Serial No. 1 of Chevy’s drag strip-ready COPO Camaro will be crossing the auction block on January 17. The hopped up hot rod will feature General Motors’ LS-based supercharged 350-cubic-inch V8 and a one-off COPO Ice Blue Metallic satin paint scheme. All proceeds from the sale of the COPO Camaro will benefit the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
On January 18, Chevrolet will auction off the rights to the first Camaro Z/28 off the line with serial number 0001. The money raised from its bidding will go to Detroit’s Cornerstone Schools.
“Chevrolet is excited to offer these two milestone cars for the Barrett-Jackson bidders, with all the proceeds going to help a pair of very worthy groups,” said Jim Campbell, General Motors U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
The Barrett-Jackson auction might actually be one of the surest ways to secure a COPO Camaro as Chevrolet plans to build just 69 examples of the dragster. If you miss out on Z/28 number one, you will still be able to order one at you local dealership for a cool $75,000.
