Lighting never strikes twice, but sometimes recalls do: after calling back certain 2.0-liter EcoBoost-engined Edge crossovers over a fuel leak last year, Ford is now issuing a second recall to address the same defect in newer Edges.
Unfortunately, vehicles involved in the first campaign will also need to be taken in to dealers for the new recall. In all, 27,933 Edge 2.0-liter EcoBoosts from the 2012-2013 model years are affected by the issue in the United States.
As before, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that the problem lies with a fuel line pulse damper’s metal housing, which is at risk to crack due to an improper manufacturing process. A crack could lead to a fuel leak, which of course poses a fire hazard.
Ford says that no accidents, injuries or fires have been linked to the faulty housing, although there have been 24 related warranty claims following the original recall.
Ford will notify owners of the recall by February 28, and dealers will set the situation right by installing a new fuel line without a damper.
