A new report finds that the Dodge Avenger isn’t long for this world, and more surprisingly, it won’t be replaced by another model.
With sales of the Dart currently compromised by the larger, more potent and similarly priced Avenger, Dodge will soon exit the midsize sedan segment altogether to give its compact sedan some much-needed breathing room, according to The Truth About Cars.
Though the Avenger’s demise had long been viewed as all but certain, it was widely assumed that it would be replaced by a new midsize four-door with a different moniker.
Dodge has not confirmed the news, but the 2015 Chrysler 200‘s trim level structure could potentially lend credence to the TTAC report. Though generally designed as a more upscale model than its predecessor, the new 200 is available in rental-grade, hubcap-equipped entry-level form, a trim Chrysler may not have offered if it was readying a lower-priced, equivalently-sized Dodge sedan that would be better-suited to fleet sales.
On the other hand, it would be an odd move for Dodge to completely abandon the high-volume midsize segment without at least trying to market a new model that’s better differentiated from the Dart in terms of price.
We’ll keep an eye out for further developments and let you know as soon as we learn more about Dodge’s plans.
