The Volvo Concept XC Coupe and 2015 Ford Mustang have taken home three 2014 EyesOn Design awards issued at the Detroit Auto Show. The winners were chosen by a panel of 30 automotive designers and heads of transportation departments at top design schools.
The Volvo Concept XC Coupe was the big winner, taking home two accolades including Best Concept Vehicle, beating out a slew of sports cars like finalists Kia GT4 Concept and Toyota FT-1. The two-door crossover’s striking grayish-white body with bright orange accents also helped it nab the Award for Innovation Use of Color, Graphics and Materials, besting the finishes of the Audi Allroad shooting brake and Toyota FT-1.
The award for Best Production Vehicle went to the 2015 Ford Mustang, outclassing its stablemate the Ford F-150 as well as the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The Mustang design team accepted the award from chief judges Ralph Gilles of SRT, Check Pelly of Designworks/USA, and Jack Telnack of Ford.
Additionally, former Audi designer and current Kia design chief presented a Lifetime Achievement award to Hartmut Warkuss, the former Volkswagen design boss responsible for the B5 Passat, Concept 1 (which begat the New Beetle), and Golf IV.
