• Lamborghini to show rear-wheel drive Huracan in LA?

    November 7, 2015

A new report coming out of England finds Lamborghini will introduce a rear-wheel drive version of the Huracán at the Los Angeles Motor Show that will open its doors later this month.

“We did it with the Gallardo so it might be an option,” hinted company CEO Stephan Winkelmann in a recent interview with British magazine Autocar. “We are a four-wheel-drive super-sports car [manufacturer] but why should we not do a rear-drive option? We need lots of derivatives. Customers expect it and we always need something new to talk about,” he added.

The yet-unnamed rear-wheel drive model will be billed as a lighter, more driver-focused alternative to the four-wheel drive Huracán. It might benefit from a sprinkling of model-specific visual add-ons, but it will most likely retain the naturally-aspirated, 601-horsepower 5.2-liter V10 and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

If the rumor turns out to be true, the rear-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracán will be introduced online in the coming weeks before greeting the show-going public in the City of Angels. Production will be limited to about 250 examples, so it’s not too far-fetched to assume the hardcore, rear-wheel drive coupe will carry a sizable premium over the four-wheel drive model.

Want one? You might be out of luck, as Autocar speculates most of the production run has already been spoken for by loyal customers and wealthy collectors who were told about the model ahead of time.

  • SEMA Live: 2016 Nissan GT-R NISMO N Attack

    November 7, 2015

Nissan has traveled to the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada, with at least four concepts in tow. One of them is a NISMO-tuned, track-focused version of the 2016 GT-R that’s scheduled to go on sale nationwide shortly after it greets the show-going public in Sin City.

Called GT-R NISMO N Attack, the coupe gains a host of aerodynamic add-ons including a rear wing that’s much bigger than the one found on the stock GT-R. Nissan engineers have also fitted the coupe with a comprehensively redesigned suspension system that helps Godzilla get around a track much faster.

The cabin is upgraded with bucket seats for the front passengers. NISMO hasn’t made any mechanical modifications, meaning the N Attack carries on with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine that spins all four wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In Japan, the N Attack package is installed directly at the NISMO Omori Factory. In the United States, the add-ons will be sold and installed by long-time Nissan partner Steven Millen Sportsparts, a California-based company that specializes in aftermarket performance accessories. Pricing and availability will be published in the weeks leading up to the N Attack’s on-sale date.

  • SEMA Live: Kia off-road Sorento Trail Edition

    November 7, 2015

Kia has shown a heavily customized Sorento in Las Vegas for SEMA.

A teaser image shows the PacWest Adventure Sorento’s front fascia, confirming an extreme off-road focus for the family crossover.

Perhaps taking inspiration from Baja racers, the Sorento has been outfitted with larger knobby tires, long-travel lifted suspension components, a tube-frame bumper, skid-plate, no less than eight LED arrays and even a snorkel for deep-water excursions.

“Kia is headed to this year’s SEMA show to celebrate America’s love for the open road and the diverse car cultures spanning the many regions of this country,” the company said in a statement.

As its name implies, the PacWest Sorento has been designed with the Pacific Northwest in mind. An accompanying teaser video hints at some of the mechanical modifications and paint scheme “inspired by the lush forests of the region.”

  • Sporty-looking Geely station wagon spied in China

    November 7, 2015
Spy shots taken in China have prematurely revealed a sleek-looking station wagon built by Geely, a large China-based automaker whose portfolio of brands includes Sweden’s Volvo and the London Taxi Company.

Billed as simply a design study, the yet-unnamed wagon is essentially a family-focused version of the well-received Emgrand concept that was unveiled earlier this year at the Shanghai Motor Show. It stands out thanks to a muscular design characterized by angular headlights, an Accord-esque grille, a deep front bumper with a large air dam, and a tall, slightly upswept belt line.

The roof line peaks above the driver and ends in a discreet trunk-mounted spoiler, while the rear fascia boasts an upright hatch and horizontal LED tail lamps. Although it’s slightly reminiscent of Kia’s Sportspace design study, the concept is one of the sportiest-looking cars Geely has ever shown.

Pictures of the interior haven’t been leaked. Similarly, the concept is most likely powered by a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain, but full technical details aren’t available yet.

Website CarNewsChina speculates the wagon will be presented to the public for the first time later this month at the Guangzhou Motor Show. Whether the concept will spawn a production model is anyone’s guess at this point.

  • SEMA Live: Kia Forte-based off-roader

    November 7, 2015

Kia has traveled to the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada, to introduce an outlandish new concept based on the Forte Koup.

Working jointly with New Jersey-based tuner Lux Motorwerks, the South Korean automaker has turned the econobox into a mud-bogging off-roader whose design is inspired by the American South. Kia has added four inches of lift, 28-inch tires wrapped around 15-inch Revolver wheels, riveted fender flares on all four corners and a bull bar up front. Interestingly, the Forte also gains a long panoramic sunroof with a vinyl top.

Kia hasn’t published pictures of the concept’s interior, but it promises the cabin has been stripped down to the bare essentials. The builders removed the carpet, lined the floor with a protective coating, and installed a pair of Sparco bucket seats with four-point harnesses for the front passengers. Finally, a roll cage keeps the occupants safe if things take a turn for the worse.

What the Forte mud-bogger is powered by is anyone’s guess.

Like all of the wild concepts that Kia is showing at SEMA this year, the Forte Koup Mud Bogger is merely a one-off model designed for the auto show circuit. It won’t be given the green light for production, and it’s not a preview of an upcoming economy car on stilts.
