Like its GX platform mate, the revised Toyota Land Cruiser features updated styling – both inside and out – and some suspension improvements. As with the current Land Cruiser, the 2014 model will be offered in both three- and five-door configurations.
Up front the redesigned Land Cruiser sports a new fascia with a heritage-inspired five-bar grille, a deeper bumper and a new headlight treatment with optional LED daytime running lights. The rear of the Land Cruiser features new-look taillights.
Although the Land Cruiser’s wheelbase remains unchanged, the SUV’s overall length has increased slightly. However, Toyota says the 2014 Land Cruiser boasts the same turning radius and approach angle as last year’s model.
The Land Cruiser’s interior has also been given a once over for the 2014 model year, with improvements including a redesigned dashboard, new controls for the SUV’s off-road functions and a 4.2-inch TFT screen located in the vehicle’s instrument cluster.
Buyers of five-door Land Cruiser models will also enjoy easier third-row access afforded by second row seats that fold by 46 degrees, up from last year’s 33.8 degree fold.
To improve handling, Toyota has revised the damper system used on base Land Cruiser models and also updated the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System featured on up-level models.
In the UK, the 2014 Land Cruiser will be powered by a Euro 5+ compliant 3.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel that cranks out 188 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Shifting duties will be handled by a five-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota hasn’t announced pricing for its 2014 Land Cruiser, but says the off-road oriented SUV will be available during the first part of next year.
