• Lincoln airs first Matthew McConaughey ads for new MKC [Video]

    September 4, 2014
Lincoln has released its first series of promotional videos featuring actor Matthew McConaughey.

The company posted three ads on its YouTube channel, kicking off the “Live in Your Moment” campaign directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. Two of the spots will air on broadcast TV beginning September 6.

Aiming for an ‘authentic’ feel, each of the segments features McConaughey vocalizing internal dialogue as he drives around in the MKC. Personal thoughts are paired with comments about the Lincoln brand and the new crossover.

There is an authenticity about this vehicle, and it’s reflected in this campaign,” said McConaughey. “It’s easy to shut out the rest of the world, and Nicolas does a remarkable job of portraying that in these spots.”

Lincoln is hoping the high-profile actor will inspire buyers to embrace the company’s foray into the ever-growing crossover segment.

  • NFL receiver Josh Gordon lands job with Ohio dealer group

    September 4, 2014
With the 2014 season a complete wash for Josh Gordon, the NFL’s leading wide receiver from a year ago, the 23-year-old All-Pro has decided to try his hand at a new career – auto sales.

ESPN reported on Thursday that Gordon, who is suspended for the entire 2014 NFL season for violating the league’s drug policy, has accepted a position with Ohio-based Sarchione Auto Group. Sarchione owns both Ford and Chevrolet franchises, according to the company’s Web site.

It was originally thought that Gordon might actually get some sales experience on the showroom floor, but Lupe Vargas, a spokesman for the pass catcher, says that won’t be the case. Instead, Gordon will lead Sarchione’s local community efforts.

Gordon is slated to start his new gig this weekend while his teammates battle the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The car sales business wasn’t Gordon’s first choice of work, but rules barred him from joining the Canadian Football League while on suspension from the NFL.

Although not related to his current day job, the experience should pay off for Gordon in the long run. The star athlete reportedly has aspiration to own his own car dealerships once his NFL career is over.

  • Lamborghini Urus to cost as much as Huracan?

    September 4, 2014
Lamborghini is reportedly eyeing a Huracan-level price tag for its upcoming Urus SUV, though the company denies that the model has received an official greenlight for production.

“We still wait final approval from [Volkswagen Group], and we are continuing to work for that approval,” R&D head Maurizio Reggiani said at the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia racing series, as quoted by Motoring.

Despite the cautionary disclaimer, the executive was a bit more forthright regarding launch timing. He suggests the company is on track to begin production before the end of 2017, with deliveries beginning in 2018.

Pricing will be “more or less” equivalent to the Huracan, which would put the SUV around $237,000 in the US market.

Recent reports suggest a turbocharged V8 will power the Urus, rather than a V10 borrowed from one of the company’s supercars, however design chief Filippo Perini earlier this year noted that design changes are being made on a regular basis.

  • Spied: 2017 BMW 1-Series sedan

    September 4, 2014
Our spy photographers have sent us the first images of BMW’s upcoming compact sedan. Set to take on vehicles like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA, the small sedan will slot beneath the 3-Series in BMW’s lineup.

Given BMW’s latest naming structure – which uses odd numbers for sedans and evens for coupes – this compact four-door should launch as the 1-Series. However, as demonstrated by the five-door 2-Series Active Tourer, BMW isn’t always keen to follow suit.

Whatever the name, this pint-sized four-door will likely ride on BMW’s front-wheel drive UKL platform. BMW recently launched its latest UKL architecture beneath the MINI Cooper.

The 1-Series sedan will undoubtedly be available with four-cylinder power, but it’s possible that the three-cylinder from the MINI could also be offered. We’ve also heard rumors about a high-performance 1M model, which would use a turbocharged four-cylinder to produce 360 horsepower. To get over the traction problems associated with front-wheel drive, the 1M would employ a version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive.

BMW is late to the compact sedan party, but the 1-Series should be ready to hit showrooms sometime in 2016 as a 2017 model.

  • Nissan wraps a GT-R for Deadmau5 after Ferrari threatens to sue

    September 4, 2014
Nissan has taken an opportunity to poke fun at Ferrari by wrapping a GT-R for Ddeadmau5, also known as Joel Zimmerman.

The electronic music producer claimed to have received an angry letter letter from Ferrari lawyers, after his ‘Purrari’ 458 — wrapped in a Nyan Cat theme — was run in the Gumball 3000.

“Yeah it was mostly about the custom floor matts and the custom purrari badges,” he noted in a Twitter post. “Whatever. It’s just a normal ass 458 now. All good.”

Seeing an opportunity in the controversy, Nissan posted a picture of a GT-R featuring a similar wrap inspired by the Nyan Cat meme.

“Hey @deadmau5, heard what happened to your car,” the company quipped. “Good news? We found a replacement, ready right meow.”

It is unclear if the producer will take Nissan up on the offer, giving him a new ride in which to take Toronto Mayor Rob Ford out for some Tim Hortons coffee.
