Visually, the GTi intentionally adopts a low-key appearance, it’s not as extreme-looking as rivals such as the SEAT Leon Cupra. It stands out from the stock 308 thanks to a new front bumper with discreet aerodynamic fins, side skirts and a pair of round exhaust tips integrated into the rear bumper. Large multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped by low-profile performance tires and black mirror caps round out the updates.
Power will come from a RCZ R-sourced turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine tuned to make 270 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 247 lb-ft. of torque at 1,900 rpm. The turbo four will spin the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited-slip differential, though Peugeot is reportedly in the final stages of designing its first-ever eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The extra power will be complemented by upgraded brakes and a stiffer suspension designed with input from Peugeot Sport, the automaker’s in-house racing division.
Peugeot is expected to introduce the 308 GTi online in the next few weeks, and the hot hatch will go on sale across Europe before the end of the year. Stay tuned to Leftlane for live images of Peugeot’s next hot hatch straight from Goodwood starting on June 25th.
